The Big Issue’s Homes for Homes initiative raises money for projects that address the shortage of social and affordable housing in the ACT. When Denman Prospect residents buy their land, 0.1 per cent of the sale price is donated to organisations like Havelock Housing which provides long-term accommodation for women in Canberra. Havelock will receive this year’s funding which came from the settlement of 202 blocks.
“We know that there has been an increase of older women and children struggling with the reality of becoming homeless and looking for more help”, says Stephen Byron, Managing Director of Capital Airport Group. “We want to support our community and give land buyers a chance to support their neighbours in need too. The uptake of this initiative is a credit to the community that is being created at Denman Prospect, and we are very proud of the outcome and the overwhelming spirit of generosity that they are showing”.
